Swampy Escape. Part 1
Part of a weekly writing challenge with a friend. I shall post their piece once I post part 2. Thick, black mud was smeared across both their faces and clothes. The acrid smell of damp and other foul, swamp like odours were now inescapable, filling their wooden shack they had taken cover in like water in a sponge. The night was aswarm with the cacophonous sound of cicadas and the occasional scream of a nearby owl. Huddled closely together how they were, Victoria’s breath was visible in the cold but was dissipating off of David’s chest. “Vic, shush!” David whispered with a harsh and frustrated tone. Victoria, near exhaustion could only utter a pant of two words. “I… Can’t…” “Well, fucking try, would ya?” David knew the severity of the situation they were in. The ‘manhunter’ drones (named as such for their impeccable ability of ‘hunting “mans”’) were hot on their heels.
